Approximation of Fuzzy Tree Languages with Application in Educational Assessment Systems

Modern educational assessment systems (EAS) use fuzzy ontological data to interact with users more intelligently. These data are often in the form of fuzzy trees or graphs. A fuzzy set of tree structures that there exists a fuzzy tree automaton (FTA) recognizing it, is called a fuzzy tree language (FTL). The aim of this paper is to provide some modeling techniques that approximate an FTL for processing fuzzy ontological data in EASs. In this regard, we illustrate the overall architecture of an EAS that uses FTA in its AI processing module. Then, we present some modeling patterns that show how to translate a set of educational concepts and properties into a set of transition rules, states and corresponding set of fuzzy final states to construct the desired FTA.
